Update on Generation Blue (Ocean Club) – Lily Niederhofer
Over the past year, Generation BLUE and other ocean literacy programs from the One Ocean Planet Foundation have reached over 4,396 students across multiple countries, creating a vibrant community dedicated to ocean awareness and preservation.
Generation BLUE was in fact co-founded by one of Nobel Almancil's very own pupils, Lily Niederhofer, along with Carolina Manhusen Schwab (founder of One Ocean Planet). They work with One Ocean Planet and Lily has also made time for another project of her own, “Swim for Impact”. Lily recently testified virtually in Washington, Oregon, Massachusetts, and New Jersey; whilst also having been invited to endorse the federal OCTOPUS Act, which was reintroduced to Congress this past weekend. She was a guest on the Women Mind the Water Podcast, where she encouraged others to advocate for the causes they wish to protect.
Lily's competitive swim season concluded successfully this past weekend, with her finishing in first place in the Algarve and ranking in the top 10 nationally across all strokes in Portugal.
Lily has been fortunate to receive exceptional support from Miss Gray, Mr. Williams, and Mr. Miller, all of whom have played significant roles in her success beyond the classroom this year through their encouragement, motivation, and patience.
Looking ahead, Generation BLUE is set to expand into more schools around the world with 2 distinct paths:
- GENERATION BLUE CLUB: This is an educational club focused on ocean literacy, led by designated teachers, such as Miss Gray. It will involve fun activities centred around ocean education with weekly materials, allowing students to follow a curriculum.
- GENERATION BLUE IMPACT: This is an online application model where students can apply individually for mentorship on specific impact projects from the founders of One Ocean Plant. This will allow students to engage in meaningful ocean impact projects at their own pace.
Lily is excited to share this new initiative with the school community once it goes live and explore the possibility of continuing Generation BLUE with Miss Gray as the lead teacher as part of the club offerings for primary students.
Who knows, maybe we can involve more of our sister schools in the Globeducate group to participate in order to raise awareness!
