Celebrating IGCSE Achievement at Nobel Algarve British International School Almancil

We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of our Year 11 students following the release of this year’s Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE examination results. 

Overall, 93% achieved a pass at grades 9–1 or A*–E, with 70% achieving grades 9–4 or A*–C. Almost one in five results were at the highest grades of 9–7 or A*–A. 

There were some excellent results across a wide range of subjects. Every student achieved a pass in English Language, English Literature, Chemistry, Mathematics, French, History, ICT, PE, Physics and Portuguese Foreign Language.  

• English was a particular highlight, with more than 90% of students achieving A*–C in both English Language and English Literature. Chemistry also had a very strong year, with 92% achieving A*–C. 
• Mathematics also had a great set of results. Every student achieved a pass, more than 80% achieved grades 9–4, and almost 30% achieved grades 9–7. 
• Languages continue to be a strength, with every student achieving A*–C in French and 75% achieving A*–A. We also saw some very good results in Business Studies, where 75% achieved A*–C, Geography, at almost 80%, and Physics, at over 70%. 

These results are a reflection of the hard work our students have put in throughout the year, as well as the support and commitment of their teachers. We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students and look forward to seeing what they go on to achieve next.  

Celebrating individual achievement 

Behind the overall figures are some fantastic individual performances. 

• Piotr Dudziak achieved an outstanding set of results across nine subjects, including five A* grades, a Grade 9 in Mathematics and Grade 8s in Portuguese and Geography Piotr also exceeded his expected grade in every subject, averaging approximately one grade above expectation across his IGCSE programme. 
• Carolina Vitorino achieved an A* in Physics, A grades in English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Portuguese, and a Grade 8 in Mathematics. Carolina achieved at or above her expected grade in every subject. 
• Noah Poole also achieved an excellent set of results, including a Grade 9 in Mathematics, and A grades in English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Marine Science, and Grade 7s in Portuguese and History. 

We are equally proud of students who made exceptional progress during their IGCSE courses. Students complete standardised assessments which, alongside their performance in school, help us establish expected grades. This allows us to celebrate not only the final grades achieved, but also those students who significantly exceeded expectations. 

• Andrea O'Brien produced an exceptional set of results for progress, exceeding her expected grade in all eight of her subjects and achieving, on average, approximately 1.6 grades above expectation. 
• Elizabeth Ikonnikova achieved at or above expectation in every subject, averaging approximately 1.2 grades above expectation, including an A* in French, significantly exceeding her original expected grade. 
• Alessandro Mirabelli-Centurione also made excellent progress across his nine subjects, averaging approximately one grade above expectation. His results included an A* in Chemistry and a Grade 9 in Mathematics, with his Mathematics result an impressive four grades above his expected outcome. 

These are just a few of the highlights from this year’s results, and while we are delighted to celebrate these achievements, we are incredibly proud of all of our students and the progress they have made. Every student’s IGCSE journey is different, and each result reflects their hard work, commitment and determination, alongside the support of their teachers and families. 
 

Reflecting on the results, Scott Pryde, Head of Secondary, commented: 

“We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students. There are some outstanding academic results within this cohort, but what I am equally pleased about is seeing students make excellent progress and, in some cases, significantly exceed the expectations we had for them. IGCSEs are a two-year journey and these results represent a huge amount of hard work, resilience and commitment from our students. They also reflect the support and care provided by their teachers and families throughout that journey. Every student's success looks slightly different, and it has been fantastic to see both exceptional grades and exceptional progress within this group. They should be very proud of what they have achieved.”
