Primary School at Nobel Algarve Almancil

Our Primary School programme builds upon the strong foundation of our Early Years Foundation Stage, guiding children aged 5 to 11 on a journey that blends academic rigour with creativity and personal growth. The Primary School journey is structured into Key Stage 1 (ages 5-7) and Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11).

Designed to foster confidence and prepare students for future learning, our Primary education provides a challenging yet nurturing environment where children make tremendous strides in literacy, numeracy, and social skills. The curriculum is delivered in English, but as an international school, students also have designated classes to develop Portuguese language learning, with classes split according to ability.

Assessments

Through regular assessments aligned with international standards, we provide a clear picture of each student’s academic achievements in relation to global benchmarks. These assessments help us track milestones, identify areas for additional support, and celebrate accomplishments as students progress through their learning journey. Alongside these standardised evaluations, our teachers conduct continuous assessments within the classroom, observing students’ learning styles, understanding, and engagement to guide the next steps in their education.

Well-being curriculum

Our commitment to student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Our Primary School programme prioritises the social, emotional, and physical health of our students, fostering a culture of collaboration and empathy. Through a supportive environment that embraces challenge and encourages growth, students gradually develop resilience, compassion, and a deeper connection with both nature and their community.

The home-school connection

We believe that effective education is a partnership between school and home, and we are committed to keeping parents well-informed about their child’s academic and personal growth. We share regular updates that highlight individual progress, areas of strength, and any challenges, while also addressing aspects of well-being and social development. We aim to provide parents with a comprehensive understanding of their child’s progress and to collaborate in supporting each child’s unique potential.

We provide parents with detailed reports on their child’s academic progress three times a year, offering clear insights into both attainment and effort. In addition, parents and teachers have the opportunity to meet regularly to discuss their child’s progress in depth. Our teachers are always available to address questions or concerns, ensuring that parents feel supported and informed throughout the school year.

Outdoor learning

In the primary phase, The Journey Forest School is a key part of the curriculum, and forms part of our outdoor learning programme, The Journey. When children visit Forest School, they see the world around them, look up and appreciate a blue sky or a dark cloud.
We live in a beautiful part of the world, and we make the most of all that it has to offer. Children understand that learning occurs everywhere, inside and outside, and they learn to seize opportunities, be positive and seek out new challenges. The Journey fosters environmental awareness and cultivates resilience, independence, and character.
