Celebrating Strong Academic Achievement at Nobel Algarve British International School, Lagoa

Celebrating Strong Academic Achievement at Nobel Algarve British International School, Lagoa

The entire community of Nobel Algarve British International School, Lagoa, is celebrating the success of its students in the recent international GCSE examinations. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, during which this cohort completed just one term of secondary school before lockdowns were implemented, many students have achieved excellent results.

Over 30% of students attained Grade 7 (or Grade A equivalent) or above, while the overall pass rate was 80% at Grade 4 (or Grade C equivalent) or above. These exceed the English national averages of 22.6% for Grade 7 and above, and a pass rate of 70.4%.

Particularly noteworthy are the performances in key subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Physical Education, and Portuguese, where an impressive 23%, 36%, 22%, 22%, and 31% of students, respectively, were awarded the top grades of 8 or 9 (or A* equivalent).

These iGCSE successes follow last week’s excellent A-Level results, in which almost two in every three students (65%) secured A*-B grades, with 35% achieving A*-A grades, and an overall pass rate of 98%. Nobel prides itself on being a non-selective British international school, and it is good to note that these achievements surpass UK averages of 27.6% for A*-A and a 76% pass rate, by some measure, reflecting the high academic standards upheld at the school. Our graduates are now well-prepared to embark on their academic journeys at some of the world’s most prestigious universities.

Several students have distinguished themselves with excellent grades, including Stahl Myles D’Souza, Alice Fernandes Ferreira da Silva, Auriane Marie-Ange Nagel, and Rafael Miranda Modesto – A-Levels, and Rostislav Ladnov, Gabriela de Oliveira Coelho, Tahirah D' Sousa, Mikhail Tamrazov, Robert Mikael Salonen  – iGCSE, demonstrating the high calibre of talent nurtured within our school community.

The school takes great pride in the achievements of its students, testament to their resilience and determination, as well as to the hard work and skill of our staff team.

Acting Head of School, Paul Brewster, expressed his admiration for the students, stating: “We are thrilled with the strong results achieved by our students this summer. These outcomes open doors to exciting opportunities, whether they choose to continue their studies at university or step into the professional world.”

Incoming Head of School, Ian Temple, who will assume his role in September, added: “We have ambitious plans to further elevate our Sixth Form offerings in the coming years, including the completion of a new Sixth Form Centre and a significant expansion of our course offerings. It is heartening to see such a strong foundation of effective teaching and academic excellence upon which to build."

Nobel Algarve British International School, Lagoa, is in the process of redeveloping its facilities, with a new Junior School to be completed in 2025, together with a top quality new gymnasium and dining facilities. A new 6th form centre (unique within the Algarve) will be completed by the summer of 2025, and the historic site will be redeveloped as a Senior School for pupils aged 12+ by September 2025. Nobel Lagoa integrates a high quality National programme with an established and high quality international programme.
