Portuguese National Curriculum

The Portuguese National Curriculum at Nobel Algarve British International School’s Lagoa campus accepts children of any nationality. The programme runs from Primary (1° Ano) to the completion of Secondary School (12° Ano). All educators are fully qualified and Portuguese-trained. Portuguese is the language of instruction.

The Portuguese system is divided into three “cycles”, known as ciclos, and followed by secondary education:

Assessment

We assess progress and achievement using assessments at key educational stages and communicate regularly with parents about how their children are doing educationally, their weaknesses and strengths, and their well-being.

All students will sit end-of-year examinations in May or June. During this period, students will have a specific timetable. The week before the exams, students will have lessons for exam preparation, and homework will be revision.

Reports

Reports provide relevant information concerning students’ academic progress and are issued three times a year. Each report contains attainment and effort grades. Parents are invited to meet their children’s teachers and form teachers to discuss their children's progress throughout the year, and parents also receive regular written reports. Parents can also contact teachers at any time to meet about their child’s progress.
