Years 10 and 11: IGCSE
In Years 10 and 11 we teach key stage 4 of the English National Curriculum, culminating in the IGCSE exams. The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is a widely respected qualification that marks the end of compulsory secondary education in the British system. It provides a solid academic foundation and equips students for future study, whether students go on to study for A-levels.
Typically, students take between six and nine subjects, combining compulsory core subjects with a range of electives. At Nobel Algarve British International School, the IGCSE curriculum is delivered using the Pearson-accredited syllabus.
Choosing subjects
Deciding which subjects to pursue at IGCSE is a significant step in a student’s academic journey. The choices made during Key Stage 4 often influence future studies at A-level and university. All pupils study English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Global Perspectives as part of their core curriculum. Students are encouraged to also study a Language (French or Portuguese) and a Humanities (History or Geography) as part of their 4 option subjects.
