Former Student Spotlight: From Nobel to Madrid - Sophia Klonis Casanova’s Inspiring University Journey

We are always proud to hear from our alumni, and this month we’re delighted to share the incredible journey of former student Sophia Klonis Casanova, who graduated from Nobel Algarve British International School in June 2023. She is currently pursuing a double degree in PPLE (Politics, Philosophy, Law and Economics) and Data Analytics at IE University in Spain.

After completing her first two years in the breathtaking city of Segovia, Sophia is now preparing to move to Madrid with her three best friends to continue the remainder of her five-year undergraduate programme. Reflecting on her time so far, she describes it as "incredible", filled with "talented and hardworking people of diverse backgrounds and stories", and "so many unforgettable experiences."

Sophia’s past year has been nothing short of exceptional:

·       She completed a year-long paid internship at Vinces Consulting, Spain’s largest public policy consultancy, where she gained invaluable insight and professional growth.

·       As a passionate writer, she contributed to The Stork, IE University's newspaper, both as a writer and editor, even covering major events at prestigious law firms in Madrid.

·       She earned second place in a university-wide writing competition, showcasing her academic excellence and creativity.

·       Sophia joined ELSA, the European Law Students’ Association, where she was elected Executive Editor for their Law Review, highlighting her leadership and editorial skills.

·       She served as Class Representative, a role that brought unique opportunities—including attending formal dinners with inspiring figures such as Susana Malcorra, former Foreign Minister of Argentina.

When asked what advice she would give current students, Sophia shared:

"Take advantage of the opportunities and resources your university gives you and work hard—but also have fun. Balance your personal life with your studies to create a full life outside of academics."

We are incredibly proud of Sophia’s achievements since leaving Nobel and the way she continues to represent our school community. We look forward to following her journey as she continues to thrive in Madrid and beyond.
